Six Steps to Better Digestion

Bloating. Belching. Gassiness. Stomach pain. Ugh. It’s just not fair to have to experience uncomfortableness after eating foods you love. If you experience indigestion, here are some tips and tricks to keep it at bay:

1)   After eating wait, at least, three hours before lying down. If you’re full and you lie down, the acid in your stomach might be forced up into your esophagus, causing heartburn.

2)   Don’t eat too fast. Eating too quickly can lead to you swallowing a lot of air, which can upset the digestive process.

3)   Increase fiber into your diet, slowly. When adding fiber to your diet, make sure to drink more water. Try fresh fruit, bran, and whole grains.

4)   You might want to jot down foods that seem to trigger indigestion for you. Keep an eye on acidic foods, caffeine, and alcohol.

5)   Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes if you’re going to eat a bigger meal, such as dinner. Wearing tight clothes can push on the stomach and make heartburn more likely.

6)   Try chewing on a piece of gum after you eat to help stimulate the production of saliva, which helps to neutralize acid and decreases the likelihood of experiencing indigestion.

If you incorporate these changes into your life and diet but are still experiencing the symptoms of indigestion, you should see your doctor in case your symptoms are another problem, such as irritable bowel syndrome, stomach ulcers, or gallbladder disease.
